Dr. Lauren Heckelman
- Lecturer in the Discipline of Biomedical Engineering
Dr. Lauren Heckelman is a Lecturer in the Department of Biomedical Engineering to guide and instructs undergraduate BME students. She wants to help her students go on to the next stage of their academic or professional journeys by enhancing their critical thinking and problem-solving abilities through experiential learning activities and one-on-one mentoring.
Dr. Heckelman delivers a two-semester Senior Design course sequence in addition to a two-semester BME laboratory course sequence. The biomedical engineering laboratory courses are broken down into smaller modules that cover a variety of biomedical engineering sub-disciplines, including biomechanics, medical imaging, equipment, and bioelectricity, among others.
Heckelman has three Duke Degrees in biomedical engineering. In 2016, she received her B.S.E., in 2017, her M.S., and in 2022, her Ph.D. She most recently received the Duke Graduate School’s Dean’s Award for Excellence in Teaching for 2022 in recognition of her outstanding dedication to instructing undergraduate and graduate students.
